General & Preventive Dentistry

Aesthetic Dentistry for Your Best Dental Health

The foundation of quality dental care relies on a full range of general and preventive dentistry solutions to help us design your ideal smile from the inside out. We make restoring your oral health and overall well being worthwhile.

Preventive care starts with a thorough decay or a caries assessment (based on ADA and FDA recommendations) for each patient, regardless of age. We will look at fluoride exposure, special health care needs, and other relevant conditions. Our team follows the same recommendations for fluoride and x-ray treatments.

We’re committed to providing complete preventive care for optimal periodontal and overall health. Gum disease has been linked to and may contribute to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s. We know that the health of your mouth strongly influences your overall health, and spend considerable effort customizing a plan for prevention of disease. The Valo Dentistry team is skilled at looking for oral health signs and implications that could lead to potential problems to provide a clear path to prevent or minimize future concerns.

Comprehensive Exams

At Valo Dentistry when we say comprehensive exams, we want to hear about your dental and overall health. Does your smile make you feel confident or are you ashamed of your teeth? We want to know you, so we’ll spend time getting to know you and your history, looking for signs of decay, and gum disease. We’ll also perform a more functional check-up of joint, muscle, and bite problems. Our team also looks for oral signs of sleep-disordered breathing and worn or loose-fitting teeth. And the care doesn’t end there. We check for signs of oral cancer and also provide an esthetic smile analysis for all interested patients. We enjoy taking the time getting to know you, and helping you get to know us.

Pediatric Dental Care

We believe it’s never too early to start practicing good dental health. That’s why at Valo Dentistry we begin seeing patients as soon as 12 months old or following the appearance of your little one’s first tooth. Our commitment to family dentistry begins with pediatric dentistry and helping you establish a dental home for a lifetime of care. Of course our youngest patients might not even have all their teeth yet, but we want them to get comfortable with the doctor and his team. Your child can sit in your lap in the exam chair and we’ll make sure the first visit is comfortable and pleasant. Your child may not have questions, but we’ll answer any questions you have about teething, bottle tooth decay, and baby teeth. It’s our goal to make your child’s first dental visit a happy one.

Oral Cancer Screenings

You may come to our office wanting to talk about a small cavity that’s causing you discomfort or a chipped tooth that you want to have fixed. We’re happy to help with any dental issues you have, but part of our job is looking out for your overall health. That’s why we perform a thorough visual and manual oral cancer screening at each visit. If you’ve noticed any unusual skin discoloration, swelling, bleeding, pain or numbness, please let us know. We want to catch any potential oral cancer issues early to make sure you get the treatment you need and keep smiling for years to come.

X-Rays

To provide comprehensive dental care, we need to get the full picture. In addition to a thorough visual exam of your mouth and teeth, we use digital and panoramic x-rays to find out what’s going on behind the scenes. This advanced equipment gives the doctor instant access to the information he needs to determine treatment options while exposing you to less radiation than traditional x-rays. Our recommendations for x-ray type and frequency are based on ADA/FDA guidelines and risk assessments. We develop a personal risk assessment during patient exams, also relying on your preferential input. Dental health is a team sport and you, as a patient, are always a central part of the team.

Hygiene

At Valo Dentistry, good dental hygiene is the first step to maintaining your dental health and designing your perfect smile. Before the exam even begins, our team gets some hints about your dental health habits and any potential issues by going through a risk assessment checklist provided by the American Dental Association. Our hygienists provide a thorough cleaning using hands-on care and possibly the assistance of an ultrasonic scaler to give you a bright smile. Our comprehensive exams and your comfort take time, so we may schedule a separate visit for your cleaning to make sure you get the care you need.

Periodontal Therapy

Have you noticed any painful gums, swelling gums, or bleeding gums? You may be experiencing signs of periodontal disease. Caused by inflammation, bacteria, and plaque, if left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to not only lost teeth but also a host of health problems such as heart concerns, stroke, diabetes, and other overall body issues completely separate from what’s happening in the mouth. The team at Valo Dentistry can treat any issue using a combination of deep cleaning, medications, home care, and frequent follow-up to reverse the effects of the disease and get you back to looking and feeling your best. For patients requiring more complex treatment, Dr. Valo associates with skilled periodontists providing a highly-trained team that can deliver optimum care for not just excellent oral health, but outstanding overall health too!

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is an essential part of good dental health, protecting you from tooth decay and sensitivity. Though fluoride can be found in toothpaste, mouthwash, and tap water, the team at Valo Dentistry provides an extra layer of protection with our topical fluoride treatments. For all patients, young and old, we’ll customize the use of fluoride after careful assessment at each checkup, consistent with your preferences and ADA guidelines to give you the best protection at the optimal level.

Mouthguards

The dedicated team at Valo Dentistry takes great care of your teeth when you’re in the office, but we also want to help you with your dental health when you’re not sitting in our chair. We provide custom-made mouthguards for our patients who need them for sports. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, we offer night guards to prevent damage. If you think you may be suffering from temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), we also prescribe bite splints and occlusal guards to help realign your jaw. It’s important to note that personalized night guards, occlusal guards, and bite splints are much more effective and safer than over-the-counter sports guards. Wearing a sports guard at night, for an extended period of time can damage teeth. Our carefully constructed mouthguards are made of hard acrylic and precisely adjusted to prevent damage and promote proper function. Visit our TMJ & Occlusal Health page for more information.

Anesthesia

At Valo Dentistry, we want you to be comfortable from the moment you walk in our doors. If you need anesthesia to help you settle in during a procedure, we offer buffered injections, oral sedation, and nitrous oxide. We help patients feel at ease with extra amenities such as a variety of Pandora music channels customized to your preference and soothing warm blankets. All you need to do is sit back and relax.

Emergency Care

When a dental emergency happens, the caring team at Valo Dentistry wants to be here to help. Whether you’ve got a toothache or you lost a tooth, we’ll go the extra mile to see you as soon as possible. In many cases, during a business day, we can get you in for an emergency appointment the same day. Call us right away and we’ll work to fix your smile as soon as possible.

Technology

At Valo Dentistry, we pride ourselves in designing smiles and building relationships with our patients, and we use office technology to help us do just that. Intraoral cameras, digital photography, and computerized treatment rooms allow us to take and view snapshots of your mouth in an instant.
